It’s okay if you’re not feeling the New Year energy.
Happy New Year! Although if you’re like a lot of people it might be feeling more like a “Feeling-Bad-About-Myself New Year” or “Feeling-Overwhelmed New Year” than a Happy New Year so far!
The reality is that January can be a really tricky month for lots of reasons. Financial stress, body image distress, and lack of routine are some of the really common culprits.
And then there’s all the new year hype about everything - setting goals, clearing out your wardrobe, getting healthy, making this your best year yet etc etc.
While the new year reset can be helpful for some of us, by mid-January a lot of us are already feeling disheartened and it’s easy to feel like a failure for not being able to maintain the new year energy.
The fact is, the new year isn’t necessarily the best time for us to be changing habits, setting goals or expecting ourselves to achieve huge things.
So if you’re feeling the new year blues, we want this email to be your reminder that it’s normal and okay for January to not be a huge, life-changing month.
It’s normal and okay for January to be a relaxed month.
It’s normal and okay for January to be just another month where you don’t do any big picture thinking or goal setting.
It’s normal and okay for January to be an out-of-routine month and for that to feel tricky.
It’s normal and okay for January to be a stressful month with back to school prep or big work pressures.
It’s normal and okay for January to be a month where you have to be extra-conscious about money.
It’s normal and okay for January to be a month where you are more preoccupied by your body image.
It’s normal and okay for January to be a hard month.
If you’re experiencing anything other than a “Happy New Year”, remind yourself it’s normal and okay, and try to be as kind to yourself as you possibly can.
